LU’s Turns 3 Years Old!

Three years ago, LU Innovations was just an idea—a response to a problem that had been overlooked for far too long. For menstruators in remote environments, period care had always been an afterthought. Traditional products weren’t designed for extreme conditions, and no one was thinking about the full menstrual experience—from storage and hygiene to comfort and disposal. LU was born to change that.

If you had told me five years ago that I’d be here today, I wouldn’t have believed you. I never imagined that LU would grow into something so impactful, that we’d:

  • Be funded by DASA, helping us develop real solutions for menstruators in extreme environments.
  • Be sponsored by Adidas, aligning with global leaders in adventure and performance.
  • Take LU to Paris and Germany, reaching new audiences and meeting international founders.
  • Be featured on BBC and STV, bringing menstrual health into national conversations.
  • Win top business awards, proving that menstrual health is a mainstream conversation.
  • Secure patents and officially become an inventor—a title I never expected but now wear with pride.

But let’s be honest—this journey hasn’t been easy. The biggest challenge? Funding.

Starting any business is tough, but launching a first-of-its-kind menstrual health brand with a niche audience? That’s a whole new level of difficult. Despite LU tackling a real and urgent problem, securing funding was an uphill battle. Investors still hesitate when it comes to female-focused health solutions, and navigating tax regulations and supply chain delays has been a test of patience and resilience.

But here we are. Because LU isn’t just about products—it’s about redefining menstrual health for adventurers, remote workers, and professionals who deserve better.

Breaking Stigmas, One Adventure at a Time

Periods have long been a silent barrier—especially for those who love adventure or work in remote environments. For years, menstruators have been forced to adapt to products that were never designed for them. LU is different because we focus on the full user journey—not just one part of it. We don’t just create one-size-fits-all solutions; we look at:
✔️ Hygiene & Health– How do you manage your period in a location with no running water?
✔️ Comfort & Durability – What’s the best solution for extreme environments, from deserts to mountain trails?
✔️ Storage & Disposal – How can we make period care safe and eco-friendly when there’s no bin in sight?

LU isn’t just another period product—we are a movement to ensure no one has to choose between their period and the things they love. And we know it’s working, because we hear stories like this:

“Earlier this year, I was travelling without the right amenities, and while I didn’t complain, it was stressful deep down. Now, Mother Nature will be joining me on my travels next week, and I know this will make life so much easier in a foreign country! Fully waterproof and discreet. 😊 Perfect for wild adventures or trips where you can’t guarantee the toilet situation!”

What’s Next for LU in 2025?

As we step into our fourth year, LU is only getting started we’re a toddler ready to create an impact. This year, we’re pushing forward with even bigger plans:

Expanding globally – Reaching more adventurers, remote workers, and businesses worldwide.
Working with more employers – Because menstrual care should be a standard part of workplace wellbeing.
Driving innovation – Because ‘good enough’ has never been good enough for us.
Launching our Adventure Sprouts Programme – Our most exciting initiative yet, focused on educating young adventurers about menstrual health from an early age.

Adventure Sprouts: Empowering the Next Generation

One of the biggest issues in menstrual health isn’t just access—it’s education. Too many young people grow up thinking that their period is a barrier to adventure, sports, and career choices. Through Adventure Sprouts, we’re creating educational resources for young adventurers, helping them understand How their bodies work,  Why their period should never hold them back, The link between menstrual health & overall wellbeing. By teaching practical solutions and tackling health misconceptions early on, we’re ensuring that the next generation grows up knowing they can achieve anything, period or not.
